Inside the Interview

  • Hear how a Wall Street career and family-business background led Grammatico to franchising.
  • Build a personal business profile before browsing familiar or fashionable brands.
  • Compare a franchise system’s training and support with its fee and ongoing royalty.
  • Understand why part-time ownership still calls for active work and careful staffing.
  • Take concrete questions to franchisees and founders before deciding whether to proceed.

Grammatico’s cost ranges and business examples are his estimates in this 2026 interview, not a standard for every franchise or a promise of returns. Review the franchise disclosure document and consult qualified legal, tax, and financial advisers.

Questions and answers.

Use each timestamp to watch the answer in context.

What should you decide before choosing a franchise?

He says he first described the business he wanted: a recession-resistant service close to home, with few employees and no large storefront. From there, he compared his skills and investment range with brands that met those criteria rather than starting with a popular name.

What support can a franchise system provide—and what does it cost?

Grammatico describes a franchise fee plus an ongoing royalty in exchange for a system. As an example, he says a cleaning franchise may provide training, marketing, and call-center support during launch; what is included and whether it is worth the fees depends on the individual brand.

Watch from 00:11:22 →

Is owning a franchise passive?

No. Grammatico describes a franchise as an operating business that requires substantial involvement, especially at the start. Part-time ownership may be possible if the franchisor allows it, but he says that can mean hiring a full-time manager and still putting in significant early hours.

More questions

What can a home-based service franchise cost?

For non-brick-and-mortar service businesses, Grammatico gives an approximate $100,000–$300,000 range, noting that staffing, vehicles, equipment, and the business model change the total. It is his interview estimate, not a current quote or a universal franchise cost.

Watch from 00:29:14 →
Why are you considering a franchise?

He says his first conversation starts with why the person wants to own a business and what they expect from franchising. He cautions that a franchise is a business, not a guaranteed investment.

Watch from 00:36:06 →
Who should you talk to before buying a franchise?

Grammatico recommends hearing from the brand itself and talking with franchisees in the candidate’s market about their typical day. He describes narrowing a shortlist through those conversations, then returning with follow-up questions.

Watch from 00:37:56 →
What founder question can reveal a red flag?

He suggests asking a founder what the business is working toward over the next five or ten years. If the founder cannot describe a vision, Grammatico says he may advise against partnering until the concern is resolved.

Watch from 00:38:40 →
How are franchise consultants paid?

For his own arrangement, he says candidates pay him no fee and he receives a referral fee from a franchisor if they buy. That is his description of his compensation, not a claim about every consultant; it is a useful incentive to understand.
